UFOLOGY Glossary Series - L
A series to help people new to the topic understand the terms, concepts, and language used in the study of UFOs and alien phenomena.
The world of ufology is vast, mysterious, and often overwhelming for newcomers and seasoned researchers alike. With decades of reports, theories, terminology, and classifications, understanding the language of UFO research is essential for making sense of the phenomena.
This Ufology Glossary is designed to be a living, evolving reference guide for anyone interested in the study of unidentified flying objects, alien encounters, and the deeper mysteries of our universe. Whether you're exploring government disclosures, diving into abduction accounts, or just trying to decipher terms like “CE-5” or “anti-gravity propulsion,” this glossary is your companion through the strange and fascinating world of UFO phenomena.
Each entry is organized alphabetically and includes clear, concise definitions to help demystify the language used by researchers, experiencers, and theorists across the field.
We begin with the letter A, and from there, the glossary will continue to grow—entry by entry, mystery by mystery.
Ley Lines (UFO Theory)
Invisible alignments that connect sacred sites, megaliths, or energy hotspots around the world. Some theorists believe UFOs use ley lines as a navigational grid or that these intersections act as portals or landing points.
Light Beam (Abduction Phenomenon)
A focused column of light emitted from a UFO, often used in abduction reports. Witnesses describe being immobilized, lifted, or transported through this beam.
Landing Trace Evidence
Physical changes left on the ground following a UFO landing, such as scorched vegetation, indentations, radiation anomalies, or melted soil—studied as tangible proof of contact.

Luminous Object
A general term for glowing, orb-like craft that emit their own light and are often seen at night. These objects display erratic motion and are sometimes linked to plasma or energy-based propulsion.
Lucid Abduction
An abduction experience in which the subject retains full or partial consciousness and awareness during the event, often with vivid memory recall and emotional intensity.
Lost Time
A common feature of abduction cases where individuals realize hours (or even days) have passed with no recollection. This missing time is often recovered later through regression or triggering memories.
Lightcraft (UFO Subtype)
A theoretical or observed type of UFO that appears to be made entirely of light or energy, lacking any solid structure. These craft may change shape, phase in and out of view, or split into multiple orbs.
Low-Frequency Humming (UFO Effect)
A deep, vibrating hum often reported during close UFO encounters. Witnesses describe it as disorienting or paralyzing, suggesting the presence of an energy field or propulsion system.

Laser-like Scanning Beams
Narrow beams of light reportedly emitted from UFOs, seen scanning terrain, buildings, or people. In some cases, witnesses report temporary paralysis or odd sensations when exposed to the beam.
Localized Fog (UFO Effect)
A mist or fog that appears suddenly around a UFO, sometimes reported before landings or abductions. May be linked to electromagnetic disturbance, cloaking, or environmental manipulation.
Lunar Anomalies
Unexplained structures, lights, or moving objects observed on the Moon—captured in photos or described by astronauts. These anomalies fuel theories of alien bases or observation posts on the lunar surface.
